Boca Raton Zofran Lawyer
Have you or a loved one suffered from dangerous side effects because they took Zofran during their pregnancy?
During pregnancy, a woman may suffer from severe morning sickness and nausea. Because this sickness can be debilitating – and for some women even life threatening, doctors prescribe Zofran (Ondansetron). This prescription medication is supposed to alleviate nausea and help a pregnant woman get through those grueling morning sickness days.
Women who gave birth to babies with birth defects, such as a cleft lip, palate, or other types of birth defects because they took Zofran during their first trimester may be entitled to compensation for their suffering.

The History of Zofran
Zofran is the brand name for a generic prescription medication known as Ondansetron. This drug was made and marketed by the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline in 1991. One of the first generic versions of this prescription was made public in 2006. The medication itself affects the central nervous system.
When you take this drug, common side effects can include constipation, diarrhea, feeling tired or drowsy, or even a severe headache. In some rare cases, a person could suffer from hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of their face, lips, tongue or even their throat.
But, there were other side effects the manufacturer was not public about – and these all related to birth defects. Because Zofran was a popular drug of choice for physicians to help alleviate morning sickness in their pregnant patients, the manufacturer had a duty to tell the public about potential birth defects.
Some of the birth defects found with this drug include:
- Cleft palate or lip
- Heart defects
- Musculoskeletal defects
- Poor fetal growth
- Kidney problems
- Death
